Artist Statement

From the beginning of my life, I have been hunched over on the floor making things out of whatever I can find. I grew up obsessively working on art projects and moving around the country with my family.

I’ve committed myself to being creative with visual arts to the point where all of my memories, and my sense of time throughout my life, is based on where I lived, and what I was working on. Driven by my own need to create, my entire life has been like an art class, and I’ve been teaching myself methods of creation through experimenting.

Arbitrary lines and shapes are very important to me as I paint. Most of my paintings begin as a single line in pencil that I play around with until I see something that sparks the idea for an overall image I want to convey. The limitless nature of the initial drawing frees my imagination and provides many opportunities for lucky accidents and patterns to influence the finished product. I love to make geometric shapes and lines multiply and overlap, each individually serving a purpose to create something as a whole. I enjoy the challenge of choosing colors to make each portion stand out amongst its surroundings. Though I work quite deliberately, consciously employing both traditional and innovative techniques, my unconscious is always in control of the project.

I am a 22 year old artist who lives in Brooklyn, New York. I have lived in different states all over the country, moving every year of my life. By the time I was a senior in high school, I had already gone to 16 different schools. My recent move to Brooklyn was exclusively for inspiration and work as an artist.

I work closely with a lot of musicians, doing album art for their records, as well as set design and acting in music videos. I custom design and make T-Shirts using my own unique method of ink printing. I have had art shows in New Haven, CT and Rochester, NY. I have been painting my whole life, mostly in acrylics. My move to New York has inspired me to explore working on a larger scale. Being a self-taught, self motivated artist, I am driven by an almost neurotic need to always be producing something, whether it is painting, drawing, sculpting, design, or just anything that I can think of to make.
